Kramer Junction, California, may be a small dot on the map. Still, this unincorporated community, located at the crossroads of U.S. Route 395 and State Route 58 in the heart of the Mojave Desert, has a surprisingly rich history. Originally established in 1898 as a remote railroad siding where the Randsburg line met the Santa Fe Railroad, it was named after Moritz Kramer, a German settler who arrived in the area in 1879. Although the original junction is actually located 2 miles east of the current Kramer Junction, the name has endured.
In the 1920s, the nearby Kramer Hills experienced a short-lived gold mining boom after the Herkelrath brothers discovered precious metal deposits. This led to the establishment of a small mining camp that included a school and even a branch of the county library. However, the low-grade ore and lack of water quickly ended the town's growth by 1931.
Today, Kramer Junction remains a quiet desert outpost, often referred to as "Four Corners" due to the intersection of the two major highways. For those interested in California history, this little spot has some fascinating stories to share.
So, when you’re road-tripping through California’s arid interior, take a break, stretch your legs, and immerse yourself in the enchanting, old-fashioned world of Kramer Antiques - it’s an unforgettable experience!
Here is something to meditate on today:
Life can be incredibly challenging at times, throwing curveballs and obstacles in our path that threaten to derail us. Whether it's a health crisis, financial hardship, relationship troubles, or the loss of a loved one, these trials have the power to shake our faith and leave us feeling lost and alone. But I want to remind you today of a profound truth - you were never meant to navigate this journey called life on your own. God created us for relationship and community, both with Him and with others. - From Finding Strength in Struggles: How to Lean on Your Faith During Life’s Toughest Trials - By Ken Hulsey
