Embracing the Rain: Reflections on Faith, Solitude, and Cherished Memories

Image
Written By Ken Hulsey This weekend brought some wonderful fall showers to Central Louisiana, along with much-welcomed cooler temperatures. For the first time in a long while, I was able to enjoy some quality time outside. I’m a sentimental person who loves rain; I enjoy watching it fall, and when it’s not thundering, I like to take long walks in the rain. There’s something magical about experiencing the soothing calmness of a gentle or steady rain shower. The sounds change, the air feels different, and the overall vibe transforms. Rain also provides an opportunity for solitude—a chance to think, reflect, and connect with God.

Unlocking Gratitude: The Hidden Blessings in Everyday Life

Image
The Hidden Blessings in Life: A Perspective on Gratitude Life has a way of reminding us about the things we often take for granted. One moment, we are comfortably nestled in our well-aired living rooms, scrolling through endless social media feeds, and the next moment, we are left gasping for breath in a sweltering 90-degree heatwave, praying that the air conditioning, our modern-day miracle, decides to kick back into action. It’s a great example of how life sometimes gives us a wake-up call, nudging us to appreciate the small things.

Louisiana Through My Lens | Getting Close To God and Nature | Fort Buhlow Recreation Area in Pineville

Image
Photos and Story By Ken Hulsey Last week, I spent a couple of days exploring the Fort Buhlow Recreation Area in Pineville, Louisiana. This park is truly a hidden gem in the central part of the state. It covers 100 acres, nestled between Lake Buhlow and the Red River. The park features a championship-caliber disc golf course, 2- and 3-mile hiking trails, two playgrounds, numerous picnic areas, and a boat launch on the river. It is the perfect place to spend an afternoon with family.

Yet, unlike magic, the workings of God are not illusions but the profound and transformative reality of divine interaction with humanity. When God answers our prayers , it is an undeniable reflection of His power and presence within our lives. Every prayer uttered by His faithful people has the capacity to showcase His glory, echoing through the fabric of creation.

Finding Hope in Every Storm: Embracing Connection on Life's Journey Life can often feel like a turbulent journey, filled with unexpected challenges that can leave us feeling overwhelmed and isolated. Whether you’re facing health issues, financial struggles, relationship difficulties, or the profound sorrow of losing a loved one, these trials can test our faith and resilience. Prayer Is An Inspiring Conversation!

Image
And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive. —Matthew 21:22 Prayer is not merely a ritual or a routine; it is a sacred two-way conversation between our Creator and us. As Christians, we are blessed to have a heavenly Father who not only hears our prayers but actively responds to them. This profound promise from Jesus, “All things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive,” serves as a powerful reminder of the potency of faith combined with earnest prayer.

God Still Moves | Just a Thought | Pastor Steve Smothermon

Image
Sometimes God's answers don't arrive the way we imagine they should. We expect the obvious solution, the dramatic moment, or the strong and visible leader. But throughout Scripture, God often works through the unlikely and the overlooked so that His power is unmistakable. When the answer comes from a place no one expected, it reminds us that the victory didn't come from human strength but from God's hand.

Lost But Not Alone: Navigating Life’s Whirlwinds with Faith and Determination | Ken Hulsey

Image
Navigating the path that God has lovingly laid out for us can be a profound journey, yet it often comes with challenges from forces that seek to distract and disorient us. Imagine this: as you strive to follow that divine path, the adversary may suddenly appear, trying to blind you and lead you astray. Like a whirlwind, he may spin you around, making you feel dizzy and confused. In that moment, it might seem as though you've lost your way, as if under the influence of something strong, unable to see your true direction.

Just A Thought From Pastor Steve Smothermon: Serve God with Fasting and Prayers

Image
I want to encourage you that whatever fast you do, finish it, complete it. Fleshly appetites: If this were easy on our flesh, then everyone would do it a lot more. If you have never fasted, it will amaze you how strong our fleshly appetites are — how much of a struggle it is to deny these fleshly appetites. It will take discipline, will power, and God’s Holy Spirit to help you. Push through; don’t give up. The bread of life: The Bible says we don’t live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God. The word of God will sustain you. So, while you are fasting, spend time — extra time — in prayer and reading your Bible. To him that believeth: Believe for something in your personal life — maybe a breakthrough in an area, maybe for a family member, maybe you need the wisdom of God. But believe for God to do something in your personal life. Then pray and believe for God’s Church (Legacy Church) to thrive and grow and reach more and more people with the gospe...

God's Promise of Protection

Image
The Lonely Highway Across The California Desert - By Ken Hulsey  Some of you may have already read my article this week about how I hydroplaned off the highway during my drive home from wor k . The purpose of that piece was to point out just how dangerous the highways are here in Louisiana. What I left out of that article was the spiritual aspect of what happened to me that day. I can tell you without any hesitation that Jesus protected me through the entire incident. I have told a lot of people about my incident over the past few days and everyone has echoed just how 'lucky' I was not to hurt. I am here to profess that 'luck' had nothing to do with it. I know that it was something Devine instead. You may find it surprisingly that during those moments when I had zero control of of my car that I wasn't in any fear. That I have to confess is a result of my ever growing relationship with Jesus. I know that in a prior stage of my life that I would have been in absolute ...

The Importance of Prayer

Image
"Most people are fascinated by magic tricks, which are simply fantastic illusions. What God is able to do and anything He purposes to accomplish in His Kingdom are never illusions. And how He answers our prayers is no illusion. When God's people commit to faithful prayer, the world will see God's power. To pray powerfully and effectively, we must first deal with sin in our lives. We must turn and flee from sin, understanding that as God responds to our cries, people will give Him greater glory. We must pray expectantly, knowing that God will ultimately change us. Isaiah 65:24 says, "... before [you] call, I will answer ..." God gave us prayer to connect us with His plan for our lives to make an impact on all creation!" - Tony Evans Philippians 4:4-7 4 Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! 5 Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. 6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and ...

A Journey In Faith - Serenity Prayer

Image
God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; courage to change the things I can; and wisdom to know the difference. Living one day at a time; Enjoying one moment at a time; Accepting hardships as the pathway to peace; Taking, as He did, this sinful world as it is, not as I would have it; Trusting that He will make all things right if I surrender to His Will; That I may be reasonably happy in this life and supremely happy with Him Forever in the next. Prayer Is a Conversation

Image
And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive. —Matthew 21:22   Prayer is a two-way conversation; it is our talking to God, and His talking to us. As a Christian, you have a heavenly Father who hears and answers prayer. Jesus said, “All things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive.” Every man or woman whose life has counted for the church and the Kingdom of God has been a person of prayer. You cannot afford to be too busy to pray. A prayerless Christian is a powerless Christian. Jesus Christ spent many hours in prayer. Sometimes He spent the night on a mountaintop in solitary communion with God the Father. If He felt that He had to pray, how much more do we need to pray! - Billy Graham   Wondering how to pray? Or why God isn’t answering? Read Prayer 101 .
