God's Promise of Protection

The Lonely Highway Across The California Desert - By Ken Hulsey

Some of you may have already read my article this week about how I hydroplaned off the highway during my drive home from work. The purpose of that piece was to point out just how dangerous the highways are here in Louisiana. What I left out of that article was the spiritual aspect of what happened to me that day.

I can tell you without any hesitation that Jesus protected me through the entire incident.

I have told a lot of people about my incident over the past few days and everyone has echoed just how 'lucky' I was not to hurt. I am here to profess that 'luck' had nothing to do with it. I know that it was something Devine instead.

You may find it surprisingly that during those moments when I had zero control of of my car that I wasn't in any fear. That I have to confess is a result of my ever growing relationship with Jesus. I know that in a prior stage of my life that I would have been in absolute terror.

Every morning before I leave for work my wife and I pray together. I always faithfully pray for God to protect me and our car as I travel to and from work.

On that day, despite what you may think, God answered that prayer.

I can understand how someone who is reading this may believe that just the opposite had taken place. You may be thinking that God had indeed abandoned me, allowing my car to crash and therefore placing me in a potentially life-threatening situation.

Here is an excerpt from my prior article:

"I discovered from a conversation with a local sheriff and the tow-truck operator that the usual fate of a car that goes off the road in this spot is that it flips over, crashes into the nearby tree line or ends up submerged in up to six feet of water."

Yes, the fact that none of those things happened to me shows just how Jesus intervened in my situation to protect me from harm. The truth is that I could have been seriously injured, possibly even killed, and my car could have been destroyed.

I walked away from the accident without a scratch and I'm driving my car to church this morning.

I can sit here and try to reconcile why, exactly, did my accident happen. Why was I placed in such a life-threatening situation?

I believe that the answer is simply so that I can use the incident as a reason to testify on just how God protected me.

And how he will protect you if you put your full faith in Him.

GOD IS ENOUGH | Pastor Steve Smothermon

We always want God to do more because we have not learned to be content.
