One can have a heart towards Godly leadership, and another could have a heart of worldly leadership. In this insightful message, Ps. Leanne helps us decipher between the two leadership styles.
In her powerful and thought-provoking message, Pastor Leanne Matthesius of Awaken Church dives deep into the concept of "A Tale of Two Hearts" - the stark contrast between a heart inclined towards Godly leadership versus one pulled by the allure of worldly leadership. With wisdom and insight, she illuminates the key differences that set these two leadership styles apart. A leader with a heart for God seeks to serve with humility, compassion, and a steadfast commitment to biblical principles. They lead by example, putting the needs of others before their own and striving to emulate the servant leadership modeled by Jesus Christ himself. In contrast, a worldly leader may be driven by selfish ambition, pride, and a hunger for power and recognition. Through vivid illustrations and scriptural truths, Pastor Leanne guides us in discerning between these two divergent paths, urging us to examine our own hearts and motives. She inspires us to cultivate a heart that beats in sync with God's will, one that seeks to lead with integrity, grace, and a unwavering dedication to building His kingdom rather than our own. As we navigate the challenges and responsibilities of leadership, may we be ever mindful of the tale of two hearts, and may we choose daily to align our own with the heart of the ultimate servant leader - our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Written By Ken Hulsey Monster movie fans often have fond memories of 200-foot-tall creatures like Godzilla, King Kong, Rodan, Mothra, and Varan stomping on buildings as terrified townspeople flee in terror. However, the unsung hero who brought these iconic monsters to life has rarely received credit - Haruo Nakajima, a Japanese actor who donned the heavy rubber costumes from 1954 to 1972 to portray Toho's most famous movie monsters.
On this day in 1776, the nascent United States was at a critical juncture, marked by urgent military concerns and intense political pressures. George Washington found himself amid two pressing emergencies that would shape the course of the American Revolution. In New York, the threat of British forces loomed large, and Washington was determined to bolster his ranks. Recognizing the need for adequate weaponry, he penned a letter to Major General Artemas Ward in Boston, urgently requesting the transport of 200 carbines, in addition to the 300 he had already ordered. This call for reinforcements underscored not just Washington's commitment to the fight for independence, but also the precarious situation faced by Continental forces as they prepared for a potential confrontation.
Romans 6:1-4 Well then, should we keep on sinning so that God can show us more and more of his wonderful grace? Of course not! Since we have died to sin, how can we continue to live in it? Or have you forgotten that when we were joined with Christ Jesus in baptism, we joined him in his death? For we died and were buried with Christ by baptism. And just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glorious power of the Father, now we also may live new lives. (NLT)
JUST A THOUGHT FROM PASTOR STEVE Contending for the Faith We must all contend for the faith, defend the faith (Jude 3-4). If we don’t, we will lose the freedom to worship our God the way He desires to be worshipped.
By Tina Martin So this morning I heard…. “You can’t hold on to faith and fear at the same time.” Then I heard a story about stress and depression, and anxiety being rooted in the fear of what we can’t control. This afternoon, I listened to a man talk about how the most powerful thing he learned from the story of Noah and the Ark was the fact that the Ark didn’t have a steering wheel of any kind... I do believe somebody is trying to tell me something!!! Trust. The Journey.
On June 29, 1776, pivotal events unfolded in the burgeoning United States that would resonate through history, marking the transition of Virginia into an independent powerhouse with its first constitution. The Virginia Convention, fueled by the spirit of revolution, formally adopted this critical document, which would become a cornerstone for governance in the new Commonwealth of Virginia. Their actions were driven by a fervent desire to escape the "detestable and insupportable Tyranny" imposed by British rule, signaling a broader movement toward independence that would culminate in the Declaration of Independence just a few weeks later.
“Some of the best days of your life haven’t happened yet… so keep going.” This wisdom resonates deeply, reminding us that our journey continues to unfold. In the hustle and bustle of life, I hope you’ve found moments to pause and simply breathe, reconnecting with your spirit amidst the midweek chaos. Let go of the weight of others’ opinions and align yourself with the best version of you—a version that is ever-evolving and filled with potential.
One of my favorite stores from the past was the M.E. Moses Five and Dime Store on Main Street in Vernon, Texas . For those of you who are too young to remember, a "Five and Dime" store was an old-fashioned discount store where most items cost around five or ten cents. Of course, you would have to travel way back in time to find those kinds of bargains—much further back than my memories from the mid-1970s. Back then, the only thing you could buy for a dime was a piece of hard candy. A comic book cost thirty cents, and a gallon of gas was sixty cents. To put this into perspective, today a comic book is about four dollars, and depending on where you are in the country, gasoline can range from two to four dollars a gallon.
In times of uncertainty and struggle, many of us seek something to hold onto—a foundation to give us hope for the future. It is in these moments that understanding the true nature of faith can provide the comfort and strength we desperately need. What is Faith? At its core, faith is the act of believing in something that may not yet be evident to us. It is trusting that what we hope for will come to pass, even when our current circumstances may seem bleak. The essence of faith lies in its substance; it brings stability into our lives and shapes our expectations. This is beautifully captured in the biblical definition of faith found in Hebrews 11:1, which reminds us that faith is the assurance of things hoped for and the conviction of things not seen. The Substance of Faith
Photos and Story by Ken Hulsey Recently, Terri and I decided to take the day off and travel up Monroe for a day of antiquing and sightseeing. After we had taken in all the wonderful shops in West Monroe, we decided to travel across the river and check out the Chennault Aviation and Military Museum. A local friend of ours highly recommended it, so we thought that we couldn't pass it up.
