Miracle Mindset

 Written By Ken Hulsey In 2021, I experienced a harrowing incident on my drive home from work. While navigating the highway in heavy rain, I hydroplaned and lost control of my car. However, I can say without hesitation that Jesus protected me through the entire ordeal. In the days that followed, many people remarked on how 'lucky' I was to have emerged unharmed. But I am here to profess that it was not mere luck - it was divine intervention.

At that particular time in my life, I was very unhappy with how my life was going, and I was honestly seeking a new direction and purpose. It was without a doubt the most honest and straightforward prayer of my life.

It may be a sign that I need some of that elusive wisdom because I chose not to quote a wise Star Wars character like Yoda or Obi-Wan Kenobi in favor of something uttered by an intergalactic fry cook in a movie that I don't particularly care for instead.

Written by Ken Hulsey Over the past couple of weeks, I have heard a message being preached from several different pulpits, articles, and even songs. This message is that it is time for Christians to stop being silent, rise into action, and speak the truth publicly about the message of Jesus Christ and the state of society as a whole. I would also echo that it is time for Americans to speak out and openly combat the forces that want to change our nation into something that more resembles the totalitarian state of George Orwell's classic novel, 1984.

 Photo and Story by Ken Hulsey This past weekend, my wife found one of the old pictures that I actually didn't have in my archives. It is a photo of a lonely desert road in Nevada that she rendered in stark black and white. I think that the image in this form conveys a true sense of emptiness.  Terri labeled this photo 'On The Road to Vegas', a road that I have traveled down numerous times. On the road towards Las Vegas, your mind is preoccupied with thoughts of winning a jackpot at a slot machine or game table. There is an optimism that somehow Lady Luck is going to shine her grace upon you, and all your financial worries will be over. Since you are about to become rich, you can't help but fantasize about how big a house you are going to buy and what it would be like to dive into a huge pool of gold coins like Scrooge McDuck.

I have been working on taking better care of myself and getting more exercise lately, so the cool morning air—without the usual humidity—provided a great opportunity to enjoy some of Louisiana's beautiful scenery.

There is a real sense of purpose in spreading all of those things around. As a Christian, are you required to be perfect? No, of course not. It also doesn't give you an excuse to indulge in unhealthy behavior either. How do you get the balance right? Life will throw you curve balls, place hurdles and pitfalls in your path. There is a way to navigate around and over these issues that can strengthen you and ultimately lead you to a purpose for your life that will be better than you could ever imagine!

The above image features the late-night horror host Mr. Lobo standing in front of a statue of the Japanese superhero, Ultraman. This photo was taken outside the famed Egyptian Theatre in Hollywood. Before I get caught up in the story behind this image, I think it’s a good idea to provide some background on Mr. Lobo and his show, Cinema Insomnia. Photo and Story by Ken Hulsey My spiritual journey took me from the lush and beautiful California coast to the desert region of the state. Initially, I struggled to adjust to life there. The landscape was stark, filled with brush, rocks, and miles of sand—an entirely different scene from the scenic vistas along the Pacific Ocean. A friend on Facebook once commented on how lucky I was to be in such a beautiful place, and I responded rather negatively. I found it hard to see any beauty in the vast expanse of the California desert.

Written by Ken Hulsey  A relationship with God can be an amazing journey filled with incredible experiences. However, it can also involve hardships and trials meant to foster spiritual growth. I took the image above back in 2011, and it’s hard to believe that it's been 15 years since then. I snapped it with my phone while crossing over the 405 Freeway in Irvine on my journey home from work. At that time, I was working the late shift at a nearby environmental laboratory and didn’t have a car, so I walked everywhere I needed to go.

One moment, we are comfortably nestled in our well-aired living rooms, scrolling through endless social media feeds, and the next moment, we are left gasping for breath in a sweltering 90-degree heatwave, praying that the air conditioning, our modern-day miracle, decides to kick back into action. It’s a great example of how life sometimes gives us a wake-up call, nudging us to appreciate the small things.

For many, the idea of giving away 10% of their income can stir up feelings of reluctance and fear. I was one of those individuals, apprehensive and uncertain about the process. Yet, it was precisely this struggle that led me to a deeper understanding of faith and dependence on God.  

Life can sometimes feel overwhelmingly challenging, as if every obstacle is stacked high against you. In moments like these, it’s essential to remember that no challenge is too great for God to overcome. He knows you intimately, even better than you know yourself . Have you tapped into the immense power of God in your life? Do you even realize that you hold this divine power within you?

Finding Hope in Every Storm: Embracing Connection on Life's Journey Life can often feel like a turbulent journey, filled with unexpected challenges that can leave us feeling overwhelmed and isolated. Whether you’re facing health issues, financial struggles, relationship difficulties, or the profound sorrow of losing a loved one, these trials can test our faith and resilience. In such moments, it's important to remember a vital truth: you are not alone on this journey.

The Israelites misunderstood Jesus's mission . They expected him to be their next political ruler—a general who would form a political party and raise an army to overthrow the Romans who ruled and oppressed them. However, that was not his mission at all. He had a more significant purpose: to forgive sins and bring a message of peace.

Life is a journey marked by various seasons, each with its unique challenges and blessings. There are times when we feel an intense fire within us, fueling our passions and driving us forward. Conversely, there are moments when we feel frozen, grappling with uncertainty and doubt. Navigating the peaks and valleys of our existence can be daunting, but faith is the key that unlocks our path . It acts as the enduring glue that binds our experiences together, even during times when we feel disoriented.

Amid the hustle and bustle of our daily existence, it is essential to carve out moments for introspection and appreciation of the myriad blessings life bestows upon us. When we take the time to truly reflect, we often uncover countless treasures—both monumental and subtle—that enrich our journeys and provide us with profound joy.

 When the divine hand reaches out to bless someone with greatness, it rarely picks the strongest, the wisest, or those who possess the most outward beauty. Perfection is not the requirement. Instead, God seeks individuals just like you—those who have imperfections, who harbor fears, and who wrestle with self-doubt. The figures celebrated in the Bible were not extraordinary; they were human, just like us, navigating their own challenges. In His infinite wisdom, God recognizes our potential even when we can’t quite see it ourselves.
