The Israelites misunderstood Jesus's mission. They expected him to be their next political ruler—a general who would form a political party and raise an army to overthrow the Romans who ruled and oppressed them. However, that was not his mission at all. He had a more significant purpose: to forgive sins and bring a message of peace.
Throughout history, many empires have risen and fallen. These societies achieved remarkable advances in science and art, making great discoveries that improved the quality of life for their people. Unfortunately, these empires were often not benevolent. One common thread among all of them is that they no longer exist, at least not in the same capacity that they once did. What happened to them? Strangely, in all cases, their societies broke down, leading to chaos and ultimately their downfall. They abandoned their faith, morals, cherished traditions, and adherence to law and order. Greed, corruption, and the lust for power eroded their governments. The desire for personal pleasure, wealth, and indulgence corrupted the people. This breakdown eventually made them vulnerable to rivals. If you look around at society today, take an honest assessment of things. What does our government stand for? What are the values that society treasures most? History has a way of repeating itself, and I urge you to reflect on these matters today.
Fear is something we all experience. It is perhaps the most significant influence in life. Fear can be overwhelming or subtle; in either case, it affects everyone. It serves as a powerful negative motivation that prevents people from reaching their full potential. Fear of failure often holds individuals back from pursuing opportunities that could enrich their lives in profound ways. I once struggled with a terrible fear of public speaking. But one day, I was called to lead a small group at church, which was far outside my comfort zone. Honestly, I felt intense anxiety about speaking in front of others. Long story short, I led that small group one morning, then another, and another. Today, I love public speaking; it has opened new career doors for me. God transformed a weakness into a strength in my life. All I had to do was trust God (which meant praying a lot) and take that step. It wasn't easy—not at all—but it was worth the risk, along with the upset stomach and shaking knees. I can't help but wonder what other wonderful experiences fear might have held me back from. Is fear holding you back from reaching your full potential? Is it preventing you from experiencing love and happiness?
