A Brief Stopover At The Southern California Railway Museum

 I have to admit that one of my favorite places to explore is the grounds of the Southern California Railroad Museum (at the time these photos were taken, it was known as the Orange Empire Railroad Museum). Several years ago I was traveling through Perris, so I decided to take a break wandering around the grounds. Time limitations didn't allow for much wandering, so I just poked around the southern end of the property.

There was a group of old switch engines parked on a siding just outside the museum's workshops. I can only assume that they were waiting their turn to be restored. Just beyond the locomotive, there was a line of vintage passenger cars along with a Santa Fe caboose.

As a railfan and photographer, I took full advantage of the opportunity to capture these vintage examples of railroad equipment for posterity.

I, like many science fiction fans, developed my lifelong love for the genre by watching "Star Trek." I didn’t discover the series on my own; I was encouraged to watch it by my older cousin, Rick, who was an avid fan. The first episode I ever saw was "Arena," which featured Captain Kirk facing off against the lizard-like captain of the Gorn species in a fight to the death, orchestrated by an unseen alien race. As a young boy fascinated by dinosaurs, the reptilian Gorn initially captured my attention. However, it was the intelligent and well-crafted story that kept me coming back for more episodes. This morning, I had a wonderful chat with the preacher. Honestly, it felt like we were the only two in the room, even though I'm pretty sure everyone else was eavesdropping! Earlier this year, a routine trip to the doctor served as a wake-up call when my test results showed that my health was in dire shape. Lifestyle changes had to be made, or I was going to end up in a very bad way. I started watching what I ate, began exercising, and started taking a handful of medications every morning. The Enduring Legacy of Macross: How a Groundbreaking Series Reshaped Anime Forever!

While shows like Astro Boy , Kimba , Gigantor , Mazinger , and Gundam had amassed devoted young followings, Macross transcended age, class, and gender barriers in a way no anime had before it. Songs from the series, sung by voice actress Mari Iijima as the character Lynn Minmay , were climbing the charts one after another. I hail from California, with short stints in Texas and New Mexico, but I lived most of my life there. Terri is from Texas, but being part of a military family, she lived all over the place, ranging from Germany to New Jersey. She actually spent most of her life in North Carolina. The fact that we both have lived in vastly different parts of our great country, each with different kinds of people, all with different foibles and different ways of doing this thing called life.
