12 Sci-Fi Cult Classics on 3 Disc Collector's Set

There was a time when our past cinematic idea of the future bordered on the visionary and the absurd. We were on the cusp of the Atomic Age, and anything was possible. Then, when our National Space Program started to launch rockets into space, the science fiction movie genre exploded onto the big screen, exploiting our curiosities and fears of the cosmic unknown. Science fiction producers pandered to the public with questionable scientific discoveries and partial truths involving science of the future. The plots, while not completely believable, offered situations that featured different laws of science, separate from those known from past or present, and embraced the concepts of environmental change, space travel, and life on other planets, among others. All great fodder for filmmakers. This Sci-Fi Cult Classics 3 DVD Collector's Set brings you 12 select films that helped define the emerging days of science fiction in films from the late 1920's through the late 1960's. 12 Titles Included: 1. Metropolis (1927) 2. Phantom from Space (1953) 3. Attack of the Giant Leeches (1959) 4. The Giant Gila Monster (1959) 5. The Killer Shrews (1959) 6. Teenagers from Outer Space (1959) 7. Image
Photos and Story by Ken Hulsey  If you have ever traveled on California State Route 62 from Palm Springs to Yucca Valley, you may have noticed a small sign off the highway pointing towards a road leading to something called Pioneertown. I used to drive past that sign once a week and wondered just what the heck Pioneertown actually was. Beyond the Showdowns: The Untold Truth About Gunfights in the Old West | Ken Hulsey

Image
The gunfight is a staple of every Western television show, movie, and pulp novel. If you watched classic TV series like The Rifleman, Gunsmoke, and Wagon Train, you know it was the climactic scene in nearly every episode. The narratives of these popular shows and films, featuring legends such as John Wayne, Jimmy Stewart, and Clint Eastwood, portray the Old West as being filled with hired guns, trigger-happy outlaws seeking revenge, and fighters looking for a brawl. It creates tension, doesn't it? Picture a showdown in a deserted street, guns blazing as two men face off in a winner-takes-all battle to the death. The fastest draw usually emerges victorious, that being most often the town marshal or the good-looking hero of the story.
