I had a similar experience a couple of years ago when I listened to a sermon by Pastor Steve Smothermon of Legacy Church in Albuquerque, New Mexico on YouTube. As Pastor Smothermon talked about his own life journey - from being a UPS driver in Tulsa, to attending Bible college, to becoming a pastor in Roswell, and eventually leading the thriving Legacy Church - I found myself drawing parallels to my own experiences. Just like him, I had complained and longed for something more at every stage, whether it was being unhappy in Albuquerque, griping about the politics and cost of living in California, or simply not feeling at home in Louisiana.

The first style, adopted by many popular megachurches, portrays Christian life as an existence of sunshine, rainbows, and joyful feelings. In contrast, the other style focuses on the hard truths about a life devoted to serving Jesus Christ. It is this latter, no-nonsense approach that Pastor James W. Greer and his team at Journey Church in Pineville embrace. The messages preached from Journey's pulpit every Sunday are straightforward sermons filled with spiritual truths applicable to real-life situations. The folk down here are hard working, polite, loving and God fearing. They greet you with a smile and they genuinely want to know how you are. It's not just lip service. If you are looking for good people look no further than the Pelican State. The people of Louisiana, for the most part, all attend church on a regular basis if not every Sunday. Their grandparents attended church, their parents attended church, so likewise they attend and then go out someplace with the family for some good old fashioned southern cooking. It's a matter of tradition  as much as it's a matter of religion. It's just what you have to do.
