When God Feels Silent: Staying Connected Through the Storm | Pastor Steve Roberts | The Daily Ascend

What do you do when you’re still connected to God—but life still hurts?

In this message, Pastor Steven tackles one of the hardest questions in the Christian life: why storms still come even when we are faithful. Using the powerful illustration of a seatbelt after a car crash, he reminds us that connection to God doesn’t promise a life without pain—it promises protection within it.

Many believers quietly disconnect when prayers seem unanswered, when doors close, or when pain enters their lives. But Scripture teaches that God’s presence remains even in the darkest valleys. Instead of removing every storm, God often protects our hearts, our minds, and our faith while we walk through them.

Through biblical insight and personal experience, this sermon explains how staying connected to God’s character, His presence, and His people allows perseverance to produce maturity, testimony, and spiritual fruit.

Storms may shake us, but they don’t get the final word when we remain connected to God.

Key Takeaways:

Faith doesn’t prevent storms—it protects us through them.

Pain can distort how we see God if we’re not careful.

God’s presence is often the greatest protection we receive.

Peace from God doesn’t always come with explanations.

God’s peace actively guards our hearts and minds.

Trials often produce maturity and deeper faith.

The pain God comforts you through can become someone else’s hope.

Connecting With God: A study series for growing disciples on foundational connection points with God Paperback

Since the day you were born, God has been chasing you. His desire has been to establish a secure connection with you that will last for eternity. If you've received Jesus Christ as your Savior, I guess you could say He chased you until you caught Him! But the chase isn't over. The connection has really just started. God has many, many more connections He wants to make with you in order to optimize your relationship with Him and help you experience the abundant and fruitful life He has in mind. This is a 13-chapter interactive study on the foundational connection points with God. Through a basic understanding and application of concepts such as prayer, Bible study, the ministry of the Holy Spirit, fellowship, witnessing, spiritual warfare, and others, you will be connecting with God along a wide front and establishing a strong, deep, and stable walk with Christ. Connecting With God is best used in a one-to-one or small group mentoring context. There are extensive discussion questions provided that are designed to springboard off the content of the study, and go deeper into issues that are pertinent to the individual or group that is being mentored. In addition, there is a large "Appendix" section that includes a number of resources that will be helpful for the growing disciple.
