Living out the Love of God

Imitate your divine parent. (Ephesians 5:1-33, NKJV)
Learn to emit the sweet-smelling aroma of love. (Ephesians 5:2, MSG)

Give up something you love for something you love more. Paul’s contentment did not come from his circumstances, but the intimate relationship he had with Jesus. (Philippians 4:17-20, NKJV) When you sacrificially give to God and His work, you are the one who gets blessed.

You can’t buy love, joy, and peace, but sometimes they become the by-product of the right giving. (Acts 20:35, NKJV; Philippians 4:18-20) Selfish people are never satisfied; Serving people are the most satisfied people.

Meeting the condition of the promise.

Meeting the condition of the promise activates the power of the promise. If we do our part, God will always do His.

Extravagant love in action. (Mark 14:3-11)

We sacrificially give to what we love the most. How much do you love Jesus? You don’t give because you have to, but because you want to.

Many times, what we call money and misery problems are really heart and love problems. Giving becomes an opportunity instead of an obligation. Giving helps us be generous and gracious; when we are not, we often become greedy and selfish.

One landmark that stands out in my mind is the Gibson's department store located just off the Highway 287 frontage road. Like many retail and five-and-dime stores of its time (pre-Walmart and Target for you younger folks), Gibson's offered a little bit of everything—clothes, hardware, household goods, and toys.

It is a photo of a lonely desert road in Nevada that she rendered in stark black and white. I think that the image in this form conveys a true sense of emptiness.  Terri labeled this photo 'On The Road to Vegas', a road that I have traveled down numerous times. On the road towards Las Vegas, your mind is preoccupied with thoughts of winning a jackpot at a slot machine or game table. There is an optimism that somehow Lady Luck is going to shine her grace upon you, and all your financial worries will be over. Since you are about to become rich, you can't help but fantasize about how big a house you are going to buy and what it would be like to dive into a huge pool of gold coins like Scrooge McDuck.

Written By Ken Hulsey As our country's 250th birthday approaches, I thought that it would be interesting to put a few things into perspective. First, being old enough to have experienced our great nation's 200th birthday celebration back in 1976, I am somewhat surprised at small number of celebrations across the country. Back in 76, there was a certain sense of excitement about our nations bicentenial. Patriotic themed events and imagery were everywhere. There was a train containing our national treasures, like the Declaration of Independence and the Liberty Bell, touring the country so that every American would have a chance to see them. There was a fleet of tall (sailed) ships touring port cities. Overall, there was a sense of national pride that permeated everything. It was a truly magical time for our country.
