Shake It Off: When Life Bites Back, God Is Still Using You | Ascend with Pastor Steve


In this message, we explore the powerful story of Paul’s shipwreck in Acts 26–28 and his unexpected experience on the island of Malta, where survival turned into attack and pain transformed into purpose. Even though we know that Sunday came and Jesus conquered death, many of us still live as if it’s Friday—caught in confusion, pain, and unanswered questions. But what if your current struggle isn’t a setback but rather a divine assignment? 

When Paul was bitten by a viper, he didn’t panic, defend himself, or question, “Why is this happening to me?” Instead, he simply shook it off—and God used that very place of pain as a source of power to heal others. 

This message will challenge you to:

- Stop asking, “Why is this happening to me?”

- Start asking, “How can God use this?”

- Shake off what’s trying to poison your faith, joy, and purpose.

- See your current situation as preparation, not punishment.

No matter what storm you’re facing, God can use it. What didn’t kill you isn’t the end of your story; it may actually be the beginning of your calling.

This morning, I had a wonderful chat with the preacher. Honestly, it felt like we were the only two in the room, even though I'm pretty sure everyone else was eavesdropping! You know, those moments that feel personal? I definitely pay attention then! Excuses are like invisible walls; they create distance, and distance leads to all sorts of wreckage—be it physical, emotional, financial, or even self-destructive. The antidote to that? Family connections! Lean into your relationship with God the Father and your fellow brothers and sisters in Christ. Sure, isolation might feel cozy at first, but it only adds to that distance. Remember what John 14:6 says, “I am the way, the truth, and the life.”
