Discover the Ultimate 80s Playlist That Will Take You Back in Time!

Written By Ken Hulsey.

Over the past few years, I have become a fanatic for creating Spotify playlists. I love to assemble them, break them apart, and rebuild them. My approach to music playlists is similar to George Lucas's philosophy about his movies. He once mentioned that movies are never truly finished, only abandoned. While I’m paraphrasing, I definitely share that mindset. There may not be such a thing as a perfect playlist, but I keep striving to create one.

My latest creation is a nostalgic journey titled "Atomic 80s." If you were around for the dawn of the MTV generation, you will surely enjoy my ever-growing collection of 80s rock and new wave hits.

I’ve been tracking the songs that receive the most plays via Last.fm and have compiled a list of the top 10 tracks.

 1. Bananarama - Cruel Summer

2. Scandal - Goodbye To You

3. The Cure - In Between Days

4. ABC - Ocean Blue

5. Haircut 100 - Favourite Shirts (Boy Meets Girl)

Rounding out the top ten are: 6. What Is Love? - Howard Jones, 7. Separate Ways (Worlds Apart) - Journey, 8. White Feathers - Kajagoogoo, 9. Something About You - Level 42, 10. Windows - Missing Persons.

Rediscovering Smith's Landing: The Story of Louisiana's First Train Station and Its Legacy

Image
Today, I want to share the story of the first railroad built in central Louisiana. Known as the Red River Railroad , or sometimes the Ralph Smith Smith Railroad , this was the very first railroad constructed west of the Mississippi River. It was a simple and roughly built line that transported cotton and other goods that were brought in by barges on Bayou Boeuf .   The place where this railroad began is called Smith’s Landing , and the remaining building in the town of Lecompte is recognized as the first train station built west of the Mississippi. The tracks ran from Lecompte to the banks of the Red River in Alexandria , but much of this route has been lost to time. During the Civil War , Union soldiers tore up the tracks to create a levee, and because of that, we don’t know exactly where the railroad used to go. Interestingly, when crews were constructing the old Jefferson Highway that runs between Lecompte and Alexandria, they found some remnants of the Red River Railroad, whi...

Why Jefferson Stands Out as East Texas' Most Charming Small Town!

Image
Photos and Story by Ken Hulsey This past weekend, Terri and I headed out to East Texas to spend the day in the historic town of Jefferson . Neither of us had ever visited this charming town before, but I had picked up a brochure about it during one of my stops at the Texas Welcome Center in Waskom, which is just west of Shreveport off Interstate 20. I have been interested in exploring East Texas for some time now, so I’ve been collecting brochures about the area for about a year. Before settling in Louisiana, Terri and I had seriously considered relocating to Tyler, but we opted to move closer to our family instead. Nevertheless, our fascination with this part of the country has never left us.

Unraveling the Mystery of the Ditch Witch: The Terrifying Tale of Love, Loss, and the Unsolved Disappearance in Albuquerque

Image
Written By: Ken Hulsey As a child growing up in Albuquerque, New Mexico, I heard the haunting tale of the Ditch Witch, also known as La Llorona or The Weeping Woman, recounted around campfires and during sleepovers countless times. While the details varied, the core narrative remained the same - a young mother who, scorned by her lover, tragically drowned her own children. Now eternally cursed, the woman's spirit wanders the banks of the Rio Grande, forever lamenting and searching for her lost offspring.

Captivating Evenings: Discover the Breathtaking Sunsets of the American Southwest

Image
Photos and Story by Ken Hulsey. There is nothing that can compare with a sunset over the American Southwest. During my years in New Mexico and California, I was treated to beautiful sunsets almost every night. When I lived in the California High Desert they sky would turn all shades of oranges, reds, and ambers. Many will try to point out that the amazing colors are probably the result of the ebbing sunlight bouncing off the air pollution from nearby Los Angeles. I'm not going to get into any of that. I just love a pretty sunset, and as you can see, I really enjoy taking pictures of them.

Prayer Is An Inspiring Conversation!

Image
And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive. —Matthew 21:22 Prayer is not merely a ritual or a routine; it is a sacred two-way conversation between our Creator and us. As Christians, we are blessed to have a heavenly Father who not only hears our prayers but actively responds to them. This profound promise from Jesus, “All things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive,” serves as a powerful reminder of the potency of faith combined with earnest prayer.

Unlock True Peace: Trust in God, Find Rest, and Embrace Your Desires Wisely

Image
Biblical Trust The Bible teaches us not to trust in man. Why? People will disappoint you; they will let you down. But God will never disappoint or let you down. Jeremiah 17:5 — This is what the Lord says: “Cursed are those who put their trust in mere humans, who rely on human strength and turn their hearts away from the Lord.” So, we are not to put our trust in people, but in God. Now we do trust people. We have to, at times — trust people will keep their word, do what they say. But we shouldn’t put our trust in them to the point we lose our faith and our trust in God. That’s what happens to so many. Someone will let them down, and then they get mad at God. That’s what the Bible is teaching. Yes, if people have proven themselves trustworthy, great. But eventually people will let you down, even when they don’t mean to. - Pastor Steve Smothermon
