Just a Thought: Ungodly Fear | Pastor Steve Smothermon


Fear can cause us to do and think the craziest stuff. It can cause us to doubt God and ourselves, to think the worst instead of the best, to see only the negative instead of what is going on in our lives that is positive, and to be overly hard on ourselves.


Fear can cause us to act and react in ways that cause us to fail or consistently come up short in the things we attempt to do. It is so paralyzing. It creates an atmosphere of failure and makes us believe we are not as good as we really are, which in turn will create moments of frustration not only with ourselves but with others as well. Fear is so destructive that it will ruin good relationships with others for no reason, only what we imagine to be true, because we will think so little of ourselves.

Fear will always give you a reason you can't, or shouldn't even, try. We need to train our minds to believe that with hard work and being committed to God and His word, we can overcome anything — we can succeed — we can win. We need to get so addicted to winning and succeeding that we will overcome our fear (fake evidence appearing real) and go for it.

With God, all things are possible. It's about overcoming the doubt that we have in ourselves and especially in God and His word.

Rediscovering Smith's Landing: The Story of Louisiana's First Train Station and Its Legacy

Today, I want to share the story of the first railroad built in central Louisiana. Known as the Red River Railroad , or sometimes the Ralph Smith Smith Railroad , this was the very first railroad constructed west of the Mississippi River. It was a simple and roughly built line that transported cotton and other goods that were brought in by barges on Bayou Boeuf .   The place where this railroad began is called Smith’s Landing , and the remaining building in the town of Lecompte is recognized as the first train station built west of the Mississippi. The tracks ran from Lecompte to the banks of the Red River in Alexandria , but much of this route has been lost to time. During the Civil War , Union soldiers tore up the tracks to create a levee, and because of that, we don’t know exactly where the railroad used to go. California Through My Lens - Sunset Over Route 66 - Cajon Pass

Photos and Story by Ken Hulsey  Many travelers who drive out of Los Angeles and Orange County through the Inland Empire and Cajon Pass to all points east, including Las Vegas, on Interstate 15 don't realize that there are several miles of the old Route 66 that still exist a mere hundred or so yards away.  The old highway that once served as the only road through the pass is now only taken by motorists who want to try and avoid traffic congestion due to accidents or weekend travelers trying to get to Sin City or other desert recreation areas.

Just before midnight on Saturday, July 19, 1952, something strange happened at Washington National Airport. Air traffic controller Edward Nugent noticed seven unusual objects on his radar.
