Pepe’s Restaurants have been proudly serving delicious Mexican food to the Southern California area since 1962. The restaurant was started by three brothers, Joe, Tony, and Fred. At first, they struggled to attract customers and had to change locations several times. Eventually, they found a permanent home in Alhambra and decided to name the restaurant “Pepe’s” after their nephew Pepe, who was serving in the Vietnam War. Tony, the brother who renamed the restaurant, wanted to honor his nephew.

As time went on, Pepe’s grew more popular, but in 1973, they faced a big challenge when Tony passed away. Joe and Fred took on the responsibility of running the restaurant together. By 1976, the youngest brother, Fred, joined in, helping to open a new Pepe’s location in Downey. Since then, they have expanded even further, opening new restaurants in Los Angeles, the San Gabriel Valley, and Orange County.

Pepe’s is known for serving authentic and high-quality Mexican dishes, with special recipes that have been kept within the family. This focus on quality and family tradition has helped Pepe’s become a beloved local establishment. - Pepe's

In that era, while many leaned into angst and rebellion, Suzanne Vega emerged as a unique voice with her 1992 album, 99.9 F°, which showcased a significant evolution in her sound and style, bridging folk and rock with a distinctly experimental twist.

I took the image above back in 2011, and it’s hard to believe that it's been 15 years since then. I snapped it with my phone while crossing over the 405 Freeway in Irvine on my journey home from work. At that time, I was working the late shift at a nearby environmental laboratory and didn’t have a car, so I walked everywhere I needed to go.

It seems like I'm bombarded daily with an endless parade of stupidity. I don't mean to imply that I'm the brightest person around - far from it. I consider myself above average in intelligence, but my recent conversations have led me to believe that I'm an intellectual compared to most people.
