The True Measure of Prosperity: Finding Joy Beyond Material Wealth

Prioritizing Faith Over Finances: A Spiritual Reflection

In today’s world, it’s all too easy to let our finances overshadow our faith. The pursuit of wealth can often become a distraction, leading us to rely on our own understanding rather than turning to God. As stated in 1 Corinthians 2:5 (NKJV), “that your faith should not be in the wisdom of men but in the power of God.” This verse serves as a crucial reminder that our trust should lie in Jesus and not in our financial status.

Many of us have experienced the subtle shift that occurs as our financial situation improves. With increased security often comes a sense of self-assuredness that we’re somehow wiser than those around us. However, it's vital to recognize that true wisdom comes not from our worldly wealth, but from our relationship with the Divine. Proverbs 2:6 (NKJV) proclaims, “For the Lord gives wisdom; From His mouth comes knowledge and understanding.” This emphasizes that godly wisdom, rooted in our faith and relationship with God, is the foundation upon which we should build our lives.

So, if you could ask God for one thing, what would it be? Take a moment and be honest with yourself—what was the first thought that came to your mind? For young Solomon, the choice was clear. When God granted him the opportunity to request anything, he asked for wisdom above all else. This humble request opened the floodgates for him to become one of the richest and most powerful figures in history, demonstrating that true wealth stems from a life guided by spiritual insight.

As we navigate our personal journeys, it’s essential to assess our relationships. Are there any that need mending, particularly those strained by the pursuit of material riches? Reflect on your recent decisions. Have you prioritized financial gains over nurturing connections with loved ones? It’s crucial to realign our priorities, focusing on what truly matters—our relationships.

In a world that often values wealth over intimacy, remember that God desires a relationship with us first and foremost. When we cultivate this bond, we are better equipped to manage our earthly possessions without losing sight of what is genuinely important. By placing God at the center of our lives, we create the right conditions for our relationships to flourish.

True prosperity is found in the richness of our connections—with God, with our partners, family, and friends. When we begin to view life through the lens of relationship rather than riches, we open ourselves up to wisdom that surpasses human understanding and ensures that our lives are built on a solid foundation.

In conclusion, let us consistently remind ourselves that our faith should not be entrenched in our finances but rather in the unwavering power of God. By doing so, we can find true joy and fulfillment, fostering meaningful relationships that carry far more value than any material possession could offer. Let your focus be on cultivating godly wisdom and nurturing the relationships that matter most, forging a life that reflects the true essence of prosperity.

Stuck in the Desert: A Three-Hour Wait That Transformed My Spiritual Journey

Photo and Story by Ken Hulsey My spiritual journey took me from the lush and beautiful California coast to the desert region of the state. Initially, I struggled to adjust to life there. The landscape was stark, filled with brush, rocks, and miles of sand—an entirely different scene from the scenic vistas along the Pacific Ocean. A friend on Facebook once commented on how lucky I was to be in such a beautiful place, and I responded rather negatively. I found it hard to see any beauty in the vast expanse of the California desert.

Remembering Terrible Tuesday: The Devastating Red River Valley Tornado Outbreak of 1979

Written By Ken Hulsey On April 10th and 11th, 1979, a confirmed 59 tornadoes ripped through Northern Texas, Oklahoma, and several nearby states. This mass outbreak of deadly storms was officially named the Red River Valley Tornado Outbreak, but for all who survived, it was known as "Terrible Tuesday." My family moved from Whittier, California , to the farming community of Vernon, Texas , in the summer of 1974. While we were familiar with earthquakes, we had no idea of the sheer terror that a tornado could inflict in an instant.

Just a Thought: Are You Hurting? | Pastor Steve Smothermon

You may have heard the phrase, “hurting people hurt people.” There is so much brokenness in this world, and so many hurting people today. It is well known that those who have been emotionally damaged tend to inflict their hurt on others. People who have suffered abuse, at times, become abusers themselves. Those who have suffered under an alcoholic parent often cause their future family to suffer because they become alcoholics.
