This year, Rock the Red will also feature a special birthday celebration in honor of America’s 250th birthday. Be sure to join in the fun at 6:00 PM for a Cake Walk, where sweet treats will be in abundance. The cutting of a grand birthday cake, generously sponsored by the Central Louisiana Regional Chamber of Commerce, will surely be a centerpiece moment of the day. It’s a great opportunity to come together as a community and celebrate the heritage and values that bind us.

As evening approaches, the entertainment lineup heats up. DJ Tony Groove will set the mood with lively music throughout the evening, ensuring the energy stays high as the sun begins to set. At 6:30 PM, get ready to be moved by a special patriotic performance by Demetrius Victor and The Association of Musical Artistry. Their music will stir the hearts of those in attendance, evoking pride and enthusiasm for the nation.

One of the standout events of the night is the aircraft flyover at 7:00 PM, a thrilling sight that adds an extra layer of excitement to the celebration. As the clock nears 9:00 PM, attendees will want to find the best vantage point for the main event—the spectacular fireworks show over the Red River. With vibrant colors lighting up the sky, it’s a breathtaking way to cap off the celebration and create lasting memories for families and friends.

One of my favorite stores from the past was the M.E. Moses Five and Dime Store on Main Street in Vernon, Texas . For those of you who are too young to remember, a "Five and Dime" store was an old-fashioned discount store where most items cost around five or ten cents. To put this into perspective, today a comic book is about four dollars, and depending on where you are in the country, gasoline can range from two to four dollars a gallon.
