Finding Hope and Building Faith: Embracing the Power of Belief

In times of uncertainty and struggle, many of us seek something to hold onto—a foundation to give us hope for the future. It is in these moments that understanding the true nature of faith can provide the comfort and strength we desperately need.

What is Faith?

At its core, faith is the act of believing in something that may not yet be evident to us. It is trusting that what we hope for will come to pass, even when our current circumstances may seem bleak. The essence of faith lies in its substance; it brings stability into our lives and shapes our expectations. This is beautifully captured in the biblical definition of faith found in Hebrews 11:1, which reminds us that faith is the assurance of things hoped for and the conviction of things not seen.

The Substance of Faith

So, what is the substance of this faith? For many believers, that substance is found in Jesus Christ. Just as a solid foundation supports a sturdy building, our faith in Christ provides stability amidst life's storms. When we anchor our hope in Him, we can face challenges with the confidence that our future is secure. The Scriptures tell us, "Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord" (1 Corinthians 15:58, NKJV). With the right faith, we become steadfast, ready to tackle whatever comes our way.

Faith Produces Evidence

While we may not see Jesus with our physical eyes, we can experience His presence in profound ways. Spiritual vision allows us to perceive the workings of God in our lives and in the world around us. The evidence of faith often reveals itself in how we see and treat others. As stated in Titus 1:15, our perspectives can be transformed, challenging us to view the world through a lens of grace and love.

The Power of God’s Word

Faith is framed by the Word of God. The very world around us, as we know, is shaped by His commands. When God speaks, things happen. To cultivate a stronger faith, we can take three essential steps:

1. Increase Your Engagement with Scripture: The more we immerse ourselves in God’s Word, the stronger our faith will become. Romans 10:17 reminds us that "faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God."

2. Trust in God’s Promises: Lean into the assurances found in the Scriptures. 2 Peter 1:4 encourages us to trust in the divine promises that God has bestowed upon us.

3. Reach Out for Increased Faith: Don’t hesitate to ask God to grow your faith. As the disciples did in Luke 17:5, we can simply ask, and He will respond.

 A Hopeful Future

Faith is more than a mere feeling; it is a powerful force that can transform our lives. By recognizing the substance of our faith in Jesus, embracing the evidence of His goodness, and framing our lives around His Word, we can find renewed hope and stability, no matter the challenges we face. Trusting in His promises allows us to move forward with confidence, knowing that brighter days are ahead.

So as you navigate through your own journey, let faith bring you hope. Stand firm in the knowledge that there is a solid foundation waiting for you, anchored in the love and grace of Jesus Christ.

Haunted Landscapes and Hollywood: The Dark Secrets of Dead Man’s Point

Photos By Ken Hulsey / Story By Terri Hulsey Victorville is on the southwestern edge of the Mojave Desert. Established in 1895, the downtown area grew around historic Route 66 (now 7th Street). The town soon became known as a prime location for shooting westerns in the 40s and 50s but Victorville was also a memorable setting during the Hollywood heyday of space sagas. Infamous director Jack Arnold (“Creature from the Black Lagoon,” "This Island Earth,” “The Incredible Shrinking Man”) shot the opening scene of “It Came from Outer Space” (1953) here. The UFO flew over the rocks on the east side of the Narrows, near the Rainbow Bridge, and crashed in Old Town Victorville.

You may have heard the phrase, “hurting people hurt people.” There is so much brokenness in this world, and so many hurting people today. It is well known that those who have been emotionally damaged tend to inflict their hurt on others. People who have suffered abuse, at times, become abusers themselves. Those who have suffered under an alcoholic parent often cause their future family to suffer because they become alcoholics.
