The King They Didn’t Expect: Crowd Faith vs Committed Faith | Journey Church | Pastor James W Greer


On Palm Sunday, the crowds shouted, "Hosanna! Save us now!" as Jesus rode into Jerusalem. They celebrated Him like a king, but only days later, many of those same voices cried, "Crucify Him." Why did this happen? Because Jesus wasn’t the king they expected. 

In this message, we explore the difference between the Savior people want and the Savior that God sent. The crowds desired a political king who would fix their circumstances and overthrow their enemies. Instead, Jesus came as a humble king, riding on a donkey and offering something far greater: a transformed heart. 

This sermon challenges us with an important question: Are we merely part of the crowd that praises Jesus when it feels good, or are we truly committed to following Him as our King? Real faith goes beyond the excitement of Sunday worship. It manifests in obedience, humility, forgiveness, and surrender. Jesus did not come just to improve our lives—He came to reign in our hearts. 

The decision we face is personal. Each of us must choose whether we will admire Jesus from afar or fully surrender to Him as our King.

To my excitement, I spotted a set of vintage FP9/F9B diesel locomotives resting on a bridge over the 110 freeway while driving toward downtown. My enthusiasm for the F-series locomotives compelled me to navigate some of Louisiana's poorly designed streets (and that’s saying something) to get close to the railyard. I made my way through what felt like a jungle that belonged somewhere in Borneo, only to climb a steep hill to reach the railyard.
